Goodwill Industries of Fort Worth announced Monday it’s rebranded itself as Goodwill North Central Texas, reflecting the nonprofit agency’s broad reach in the region, providing jobs and job training to people with disabilities and other barriers to employment.
The agency started in 1949 at 665 South Main St. in Fort Worth, with four employees serving physically or mentally disabled residents of Fort Worth. Today, it’s one of the largest agencies in North Texas, employing over 800 people and serving more than 10,000 people with disabilities and other barriers to employment. Those include veterans, at-risk youth, the homeless, the formerly incarcerated and the disadvantaged.
The agency has built nationally recognized job training and placement programs, and a focus on continuing education, helping clients experience the “power of work” in transforming lives.
“Today, we serve communities far beyond the boundaries of Fort Worth. We provide services as far south and Granbury, as far west as Weatherford, and as far north as Denton; not to mention the mid cities and Arlington,” David Cox, president and CEO, said in a release. “We are excited to make this change to a name that is truly representative of the diverse and unique communities across the 18 counties we serve in North Central Texas.”
Along with the name change, Goodwill’s volunteer board adopted a new mission and vision statement. The mission is “to CREATE Lives of Independence and BUILD a Stronger Local Community.” The vision statement is “a North Central Texas where every person has the opportunity for maximum independence and abundant living.”
