An American Airlines pilot was spotted with a “Let’s Go Brandon” sticker on his luggage on Saturday, and you can guess what happened next.
The news — and picture taken by a put-out passenger — spread faster than a certain virus mutation, followed by … outrage.
The same Twitter user who has since made her Twitter account private took a picture of the sticker and sent it to the airline, asking if they accept “cowardly rhetoric on their crew luggage when they’re in uniform.”
“We are not the only passengers who noticed and were disgusted,” the user added.
The New York Post initially brought this to our attention.
American Airlines was quick to respond.
“We take this very seriously and have sent this over to crew leadership,” American said in response to the user who accused the pilot of displaying political propaganda supporting insurrection against the U.S. government. “They will handle this internally after review. We assure you appropriate internal review will occur.”
It’s unclear what insurrection the pilot was supporting.
John Dean, the former counselor to President Richard Nixon turned Republican critic joined the pilot's detractors on Twitter.
“Let’s Go Brandon,” of course, has become a very popular phrase used to indicate the user does not support the Biden administration. Its genesis was a NASCAR race in 2021. As a television reporter interviewed the winner of the race, Brandon Brown, fans in the background were heard — clearly — chanting, ahem, “[expletive], Joe Biden.”
The reporter during the interview suggested the fans were shouting “Let’s go, Brandon.”
The phrase was immediately adopted and turned into a slogan for those disbelievers in the philosophy, long game or otherwise, of the public policy of the Biden administration.
Brown, 28, has said he has no interest in or desire to be in politics, especially considering he is in the business fast cars — hopefully, faster than the others in the race — casting a wide net for sponsors who will keep his team in business.
Though the American pilot has his detractors, he was met with the kind of support a field-goal kicker does when he drains one to win the Super Bowl.
“Hope he and everyone else gets a raise for having to deal with Karen passengers such as this one,” tweeted journalist Mollie Hemingway.
Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis’ press secretary entered the fray to deliver a huzzah.
“This pilot deserves a raise for dealing with entitled Karens while doing his job,” tweeted Christina Pushaw, who added, “Don’t fire your pilots for being conservative or criticizing Biden,” Pushaw further wrote. “We won’t have any pilots left. As if the thousands of flight cancellations aren’t enough already. @AmericanAir do the right thing.”
Many others vowed never to fly American again if the pilot were punished.
Ah, politics. As Will Rogers said — a long time ago — it’s the best show in America.
