Founded in 2001, Brennan Vineyards has earned a reputation as one of the finest wineries in Texas, winning numerous top awards at some of the industry's most respected competitions. In 2024, 13 of its wines were rated 90 points or higher — including one at 95 points, the second-highest rating among more than 3,000 Texas wines reviewed by Cristaldi & Co., founded by critic and writer Jonathan Cristaldi, the Napa Valley correspondent for Decanter magazine.
“It is a turnkey operation where the new owner can be as involved as they wish,” according to Burgher-Ray.
The centerpiece of the estate is the historic McCrary House, constructed of 21-inch-thick Austin limestone in 1876 and one of the oldest remaining homesteads in Texas. Built by James Madison "Mat" McCrary, who owned the local general store and cotton gin, the handsome, single-story home was the family hub, where McCrary and his wife Ella raised nine children. The winery's stone-walled tasting room is inside the home.
James McCrary was a member of the Minute-Men Rangers, established by Gov. Elisha Pease for frontier defense, and later the Frontier Battalion, established to guard the western frontier and restore order after the Civil War.
The property remained in the family until 1987.
Comanche County’s population is 13,550, including more than 4,300 in the town of Comanche.
