Nuvothera, a Fort Worth -based biotech company, has reached agreement for its Prosoria Psoriasis Treatment System to be carried in select CVS HealthHUB Stores, according to a news release. Additionally, it soon will be available on CVS.com.
Prosoria is an over-the-counter treatment with long-lasting results for a tough-to-treat skin condition. Formulated with maximum strength ingredients, botanicals and vitamins, Prosoria effectively relieves psoriasis symptoms and is safe for daily use, according to the release announcing. The formula is steroid-free, paraben-free, and fragrance-free.
The once-daily, two-step treatment system includes a treatment gel developed to optimize the relief of psoriasis symptoms. It’s used with an exfoliating moisturizer made to rapidly remove scaling and flaking while intensively moisturizing the skin. The combination of these two products in a daily regimen makes the difference.
“We knew with the advanced pharmaceutical technology that we could make a better and more effective 'over-the-counter' treatment that was safe to use every day,” says Art Clapp, CEO of Nuvothera, in a statement. “We are constantly seeking ways to improve our customers' experience and satisfaction. With the proper approach, psoriasis symptoms can be well controlled.”
Nuvothera is a TechFW client. TechFW helps innovators launch and grow emerging technology companies, and operates programs — a non-seed accelerator, business incubator and angel investor network — that build, educate and support tech entrepreneurs and startups in an effort to take their proprietary innovations to market.
Prosoria already is available for purchase online at Prosoria.com and Amazon, and it is eligible for HSA and FSA reimbursement. Nuvothera will continue to sell online and expects to double sales during 2022, propelled by the launch of a new line of products to treat scalp psoriasis and seborrheic dermatitis.
Next year, Nuvothera expects to expand distribution into other major drugstores.
“Getting into retail drugstores is a game changer,” says Clapp. “This significant milestone enables us to quickly launch products and reach significantly more people with skin conditions. The drugstore channel is huge, and we’ve prepared for rapid growth.”
There are approximately nine million people in the U.S. with psoriasis and 125 million worldwide. Dry, red, flaky patches of skin characterize the condition, which is an inherited inflammatory condition and is not contagious. Inflammatory conditions such as psoriasis tend to have flares, which are cycles of improvement and worsening. There is no cure for psoriasis, and it is a condition that can be difficult to manage and control. The National Psoriasis Foundation has recognized Prosoria as an effective treatment to help relieve symptoms of psoriasis.
Nuvothera uses pharmaceutical technology and advanced plant science to boost the effectiveness of its healthcare products. It focuses on topical solutions for difficult-to-treat skin conditions such as psoriasis, eczema, warts, and nail fungus. It also has a turmeric-based pill to effectively relieve inflammation and joint pain.
Nuvothera was founded by seasoned dermatology pharmaceutical executives to develop novel products for difficult-to-treat skin conditions and chronic inflammatory diseases. It is a client of TechFW, a technology incubator/accelerator that helps companies get to market and grow.
