Gary Stout has been named vice president of student affairs and dean of students at Texas Wesleyan University, effective July 1.
Stout, who has more than eight years with the university, has served as the interim vice president since December. Since 2019, he has served as associate vice president of student affairs. Additionally, Stout has served as an adjunct professor teaching a freshman introduction course, as well as serving as a deputy Title IX coordinator.
“Gary embodies our core values of connection, commitment, compassion, and courage,” said Emily W. Messer, university president, in a statement. “Our students, faculty, and staff have strong relationships with Gary, which is at the heart of this position.”
The university credited Stout as serving an instrumental role in advancing student-centered initiatives, including a dedicated career center designed to help students prepare for interviews and navigate job searches. Most recently, Stout has championed the development of mental health resources.
“This is an incredible university where our top priority is doing what is best for students,” said Stout, who previously held various roles supporting students at TCU, Tarleton State, and Baylor.
He earned a bachelor’s in anthropology and archaeology from Baylor University, a Master of Education in college student affairs from Azusa Pacific University, and a Doctor of Education from TCU.
