Jay Chapa will be sworn in as Fort Worth’s next city manager at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, at Old City Hall, 200 Texas St. The regular City Council meeting will follow the swearing-in ceremony.
The ceremony and the Council meeting to follow will be broadcast live on FWTV.
Chapa will make history as Fort Worth’s first Hispanic city manager. He will oversee the municipality named the fastest-growing large city in the country, with Fort Worth having recently surpassed Austin as Texas’ fourth-largest city. Fort Worth has more than 7,400 employees and more than 8,100 authorized positions.
He succeeds David Cooke, who is retiring. Cooke has moved out of his office, an event documented by his wife Denise.
"David cleaned out his office to make room for the new guy," Denise Cooke wrote on Instagram. "It has been 10 years and seven months since he became a Texan and called Fort Worth home. The city has been great to us and we wish Jay Chapa and his wonderful family great memories and continued success. Thank you, Fort Worth, we love you!!"
Don't be a stranger, Mr. Cooke.
