Kids Matter International, a nonprofit organization serving children living in poverty announced Thursday that Lisa Harrington has been elected chairman of the board of directors.
The appointment took effect in October.
As CEO and founder of Abiding Strategy, she provides highly sought executive and strategy coaching.
“Lisa’s extensive experience in business development, strategic planning, business development, and certification in nonprofit management brings a combination of valuable skills that we can capitalize on to further our mission,” said Marti Conner, president of Kids Matter International, in a statement.
Harrington is the author of two books — Taking in Strays: Leadership Lessons from Unexpected Places and Abiding Strategies: Build Your Best Business Foundation.
“I am honored to serve as chairman of this prestigious board which gives freely of their time, talent, and resources,” Harrington said. “The vision of Kids Matter is to break the cycle of poverty by focusing on literacy among elementary age students and building self-confidence and self-worth by providing them with new clothes and shoes. Together, we can make a difference in the life of a child.”
Kids Matter International is a 501(c3) nonprofit dedicated to helping children in need through programs that empower them and enhance their lives.
Each November, the Around the Block clothing events are held in partnership with Kohl’s department stores and Twisted X blobal brand shoes. To date, more than 21,000 children have received new clothes. The RampUp Reading Literacy Program provides new books to kids in need. More than 182,000 books have been distributed so far. Kids Matter International is a seven-year Platinum-rated charity through Candid, previously GuideStar, according to the nonprofit.
