Leah King
Leah M. King is stepping down as president and CEO of United Way of Tarrant County to become president of the JPS Foundation, the nonprofit announced on Tuesday morning.
Her resignation is effective on Oct. 23.
The nonprofit will appoint an interim CEO while it launches a search for a permanent replacement, officials said.
“Under Leah’s leadership, United Way of Tarrant County has strengthened its commitment to addressing critical needs across our region, expanded its reach, and elevated our mission in ways that will leave a lasting impact,” said Steve Bobb, United Way of Tarrant County board chair. “Her dedication, vision and compassion have truly been a beacon for our organization and for all those we support.”
King was appointed president and CEO in November 2019, succeeding TD Smyers. She had served the nonprofit has executive vice president and COO. She first joined the organization in 2016.
King is also an elected official as president of the board of directors of the Tarrant Regional Water District.
The JPS Foundation is a fundraising arm of the JPS Health Network, the taxpayer-supported hospital district in Tarrant County. As president of the JPS Foundation, King will oversee the foundation’s strategic initiatives and align them with JPS Health Network to establish strong partnerships with funders and community organizations.

King’s appointment concludes a three-month search process completed by the JPS Foundation executive search committee and board chair Larry Anfin, who noted “Leah’s demonstrated record of accomplishment in fundraising, experience in the nonprofit sector, and influence in the Tarrant County community."
