The legacy of the late Scott Simmons, a renowned Southlake builder and founder of SCH Homes, will continue to shape the future of North Texas construction through a new scholarship fund at Tarrant County College.
TCC officials on Thursday announced the Scott Simmons Endowed Scholarship Fund during a meeting of the Tarrant County College Board of Trustees. The fund has already surpassed $140,000 and will support students in the college’s Construction Management Technology program, helping meet the region’s growing need for skilled building professionals.
“Without doubt, this transformative gift will have a lasting impact for generations to come,” said TCC Chancellor Elva LeBlanc in a statement. “It is bittersweet that [Simmons] will not be here to meet the students whose lives this scholarship will change.”
The scholarship was established by Neal Calhoun and Jonathan Hebb, business partners of Simmons at SCH Homes, in honor of his deep commitment to craftsmanship, mentorship, and community leadership. Simmons, who passed away in 2019, began his career with a degree in architecture and built an award-winning luxury home business that later became SCH Homes.
“We are incredibly grateful for Scott’s guidance, dedication and friendship,” Calhoun and Hebb said in a joint statement. “The endowment will ensure that his impact is felt for many years to come.”
The scholarship celebrates Simmons’ passion for construction and community development, and SCH Homes continues to partner with TCC to provide meaningful industry experiences for students.
“SCH Homes embodies a true community partner,” said Laure O’Neal, executive director of the TCC Foundation. Through their generosity, students’ lives will be positively impacted now and in the future.”
To qualify for the scholarship, students must be enrolled in at least six credit hours in the Construction Management Technology program, maintain a 3.0 GPA, and meet federal and state financial aid guidelines. Eligible students should complete the online form by May 1 to apply for a fall 2025 scholarship.
