The Tarrant Area Food Bank is bringing another neighborhood farmer's market to a Southeast Fort Worth food desert. The Food Bank, with the Cowtown Farmers Market and GROW North Texas, will hold a Neighborhood Farmers Market, 9 a.m.-11 a.m. Thursday June 3 at the Grace Temple SDA Church, 4200 E. Berry St.
The markets are held as part of TAFB’s Farmers Market Nutrition Program, which brings fresh local produce to neighborhoods where "access to nutritious food may be limited." The markets generally run from April to August.
Accepted forms of payment for the food include WIC (Women, Infants and Children) FMNP vouchers and Lone Star Card SNAP benefits for eligible items, as well as standard methods of payment.
TAFB partners with many organizations on the Neighborhood Farmers Markets. The Cowtown Farmers Market is partnering with the Food Bank for the second year to expand FMNP offerings, hosting those at Cowtown’s Wednesday and Saturday Farmers Markets starting in June.
This year, WIC families can use their vouchers at Cowtown’s signature markets. For the first time, GROW North Texas is joining the Food Bank at the Neighborhood Farmers Markets. GROW North Texas is a nonprofit that connects North Texans to food, farms, and community.
