Five Texas Woman’s University kinesiology seniors placed seventh overall in the Texas Space Grant Consortium Design Challenge Showcase, April 20-21. The TWU Athena V team was the second all-women TWU team to enter the competition and the only all-female team competing this spring. All five team members graduate this month, the university said.
Under the TSGC Design Challenge, sponsored by NASA, undergraduates propose, design and fabricate solutions that aim to solve NASA research objectives.
The all-Texan TWU spring team—Vanessa Parnell of Little Elm; Elizabeth Schatte of Trenton; Ashley Short of Pottsboro; Emily Blanton of The Colony; and Yuzek Rodriguez of Dallas —"continued the TWU fall team’s challenge of preventing and mitigating space headaches in astronauts when they are in microgravity, but they decided to create an entirely new design,” the university said.
