Taco Heads, which transformed a small spot on the West Side’s Montgomery Street into a hotspot for craft cocktails and tacos five years ago, is opening its second location – in the historic Fort Worth Stockyards.
The company has signed a lease for a 3,700-square-foot location in an historic building at 2341 N. Main St., just south of Exchange Avenue, owner Sarah Castillo and Stream Realty Partners, which executed the lease, said Tuesday. Taco Heads plans to open this spring.
“We couldn’t be more excited about our new Fort Worth location,” Castillo, who started her business in a food truck in 2008 before opening her first brick-and-mortar location, said in a release. “It gives us the ability to gain additional exposure and further build our brand throughout the region, and also gives customers an authentic taqueria experience within the heart and soul of our city.”
The Fort Worth architecture firm 97W is the architect and has developed “an exciting indoor/outdoor design that enhances the bones of the existing building,” Castillo and Stream said in the release. “The design incorporates signature Taco Heads elements, while acknowledging the special history and vibrant future of the Stockyards.”
The service will be “fast casual 2.0” with a full bar, to-go window, and covered patio.
“The Stockyards has such a rich and storied history within Fort Worth, and KRS is excited about what the future holds for the historic district,” Kerby Smith, founder and principal of KRS Realty Advisors, owner of the building, said in the release.
The 2341 N. Main Street building is an adaptive reuse of an old office building. The building has more than 100 feet of frontage on North Main.
The 7,200-square-foot property is now 100% full with the lease signing. The boot brand Tecovas occupies the other space next door.
KRS also owns an adjacent building at 111 N.W. 24th St. The Fort Worth architecture firm Bennett Benner Partners designed renovations last year to the facades of both buildings.
Stream noted the significant redevelopment ongoing in the Stockyards, led by a partnership of Majestic Realty and Fort Worth’s Hickman family.
“Investors have been pouring significant capital into the Stockyards, with over $250 million improvements underway – the most it’s seen since the boom from Fort Worth’s railway expansion to meet the demand of the meat-packing industry of the early 1900s,” Stream said.
“Taco Heads is a Fort Worth staple and an exciting new addition to the Stockyards,” Cullen Donohue, senior associate in Fort Worth’s office of Stream, said. “Signing a restaurant lease during COVID speaks volumes to the bullish nature of the Stockyards and strength of the Fort Worth economy.”
Donohue and Vic Meyers of Stream represented KRS, while William Edwards of Stablemade Group represented Taco Heads.
