The city of Fort Worth scored high on list ranking the top economic development agencies in North Texas.
The city ranked second behind the Sherman Economic Corp., according to a list compiled by the Dallas Business Journal, which ranked economic development agencies based on the value of developments in 2021. The list was released this week.
Fort Worth had $569 million in economic development last year, while Sherman rode the coattails of the $30 billion Texas Instruments campus.
“We’re very proud that Fort Worth scored so highly on the Dallas Business Journal list, although we're not entirely surprised," said Robert Sturns, Fort Worth’s director of economic development, in a statement.
"Between our city's tremendous growth, several of our recent deals, and other major initiatives in the pipeline — including some that will reimagine large parts of our downtown — there's clearly a lot of opportunity in Fort Worth, and we're starting to get on the radars of the companies and businesses who want to be part of it."
Fort Worth’s value was boosted by The Crescent’s hotel and mixed-used development emerging as I write in the Cultural District. MP Materials’ new magnet factory, Hoque Global’s development on Evans and Rosedale, the relocation of SmartAction’s corporate headquarters, and the new facility for Oatly were other notable qualifying projects.
The city of Dallas Office of Economic Development came in fourth on the list at $423 million.
