Amazon has discovered the county seat of Johnson County.
The online retail behemoth will soon begin construction on a 1.7 million-square-foot facility off the Chisholm Trail Parkway at Industrial Drive.
The $200 million facility is likely an addition to the company’s extensive network of distribution centers across Dallas-Fort Worth. It will employ upwards of 1,000, according to city officials.
“On behalf of the Cleburne City Council, I am thrilled to welcome Amazon to our community,” said Mayor Scott Cain in a statement. “Amazon’s strategic investment to establish a state-of-the-art facility here is a testament to Cleburne’s thriving economy, strategic location, and growing potential. This investment will not only create new opportunities for our residents but also further solidify Cleburne as a key player in the region’s economic landscape.”
Since 2010, Amazon has invested $70 billion in Texas — including infrastructure and compensation to employees. The company employs 89,000 in Texas and operates more than 80 operations facilities across the state. The average base wage for hourly employees in the United States is more than $22 per hour and average total compensation to more than $29 per hour.
“This facility will allow us to better serve our customers,” said Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. “We’re grateful for our partnership with the city of Cleburne and look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future.”
