Michael George, the owner and chief surgeon of Tylock-George Eye Care and Laser Center, died on Friday.
Officials with the practice called his passing “unexpected,” according to a press release.
“Dr. George was not only a highly skilled surgeon but also a compassionate leader who dedicated his career to providing exceptional care for our patients,” officials with the practice said. “He will be profoundly missed by his colleagues, patients, and the entire community.”
The practice’s Irving and McKinney offices will be temporarily closed “while we navigate this difficult period and determine the next steps for our practice.”
Gary Tylock started the practice almost 30 years ago. George purchased the practice in 2016.
George received his medical degree from Louisiana State University, where he graduated in the top 10% of his class, according to his biography on the practice’s website. He completed his ophthalmology residency training at the University of Louisville Lions Eye Center in Kentucky.
He completed his corneal and refractive surgery fellowship partnering with the acclaimed surgeon Ming Wang of the Wang Vision Institute in Nashville. There he was a leading provider in performing 3D LASIK and cataract surgery on thousands of patients.
George joined Tylock-George in 2012.
George and Tylock were the first surgeons in Texas to use the advanced WaveLight Refractive Suite Laser. George was also a specialist in cataract and lens implant surgery.
“We appreciate the understanding and patience of our patients, staff, and community during this challenging time,” the release said. “Further updates regarding the reopening of our offices and ongoing patient care will be communicated as soon as possible.”
