Zero-G Helmet Mounted Display System+
A joint venture between Collins Aerospace and Elbit Systems of America has been awarded a $16 million contract by the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division for the development of a new helmet-mounted display used in the U.S. Navy’s Block 3 F/A-18 Super Hornets and EA-18G Growler aircraft.
The technology of the Zero-G Helmet Mounted Display System+, introduced by Collins Elbit Vision Systems, will provide an augmented view of the battle space inside the pilot's helmet to allow for faster decision making, increasing survivability, and effectiveness.
Elbit Systems of America is headquartered in Fort Worth.
“The team followed a new development process that incorporated early and continuous pilot input to field the best solution,” said Jeff Hoberg, Collins Elbit Vision Systems co-general manager, in a statement. “The result is an innovative and adaptable HMDS that will follow a long, successful line of fielded HMDS from CEVS.”
In addition to providing improved capability, the balanced and ultra-lightweight design of the helmet will significantly decrease the physiological strain pilots experience, officials said in a press release.
