Southwire, for more than 70 years one of the leading manufacturers of wire and cable used in the transmission and distribution of electricity, has expanded its operations to Fort Worth, officials announced Wednesday.
The company has leased Alliance Westport 25, a 1.18 million-square-foot logistics facility currently under construction within the Alliance Westport sector of AllianceTexas.
Southwire will employ 250 team members there.
“We’re pleased to welcome Southwire to Fort Worth,” Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said in a statement. “Southwire provides power responsibly to customers around the world, and now they can modernize their operations with new, state-of-the-art technology at their Customer Service Center at AllianceTexas. Southwire joins more than 560 companies that have already enjoyed long-term growth inside the modern-day, Texas-sized success story that is AllianceTexas.”
The announcement marked the second in consecutive days involving economic development in Fort Worth. Junchuang North America, Inc., a leading provider of advanced technical solutions for the electric vehicle market, announced on Tuesday that it was expanding its operations to Fort Worth.
Southwire’s investment will effectively streamline the company's entire product offering to the Southwest and Midwest U.S., according to the company.
Alliance Westport 25 was originally launched as a slightly less than 1.1 million square feet speculative building in August 2022 and was expanded to 1.18M square feet to accommodate Southwire’s needs.
The 1,200-acre Alliance Westport sector offers a one-of-a-kind location across from the entrance to the BNSF Intermodal Facility with more than 15 million square feet of developable next-generation distribution facility space designed and master planned to be fully integrated with a smart-infrastructure platform featuring electric and autonomous freight optimization capabilities.
“Hillwood is proud to have Southwire join the AllianceTexas roster of global companies,” said Reid Goetz, senior vice president of Hillwood. “Supporting America’s leading electricity providers, Southwire’s location at AllianceTexas will provide a distribution platform that will ensure the efficient and speedy delivery of electric components essential to their business operations.”
Designed with the future of the supply chain in consideration, Alliance Westport 25 will also benefit from AllianceTexas’ robust transportation infrastructure platform, which includes the AllianceTexas Mobility Innovation Zone (MIZ), Perot Field Fort Worth Alliance Airport (AFW), and BNSF Railway’s Alliance Intermodal Facility, FedEx Ground Hub, two UPS Ground Sort Hubs, the FedEx Express Southwest Regional Air Hub, and Amazon Air Regional Hub.
Alliance Westport 25 was designed by GSR Architects and financed by Citizens Bank. Peloton Land Solutions provided the building’s civil engineering design, and Hillwood Construction Services serves as the general contractor for the project located at
Sean Boswell and Chris Teesdale of Colliers represented Southwire in the transaction. Reid Goetz, Samuel Rhea, and Jack Barkley of Hillwood represented Hillwood.
“This [Customer Service Center] will take Southwire's customer service to a new level,” said Norman Adkins, Southwire COO. “A modern, automated facility in the center of the United States will provide world-class fill rates and on-time in-full deliveries for our customers. We look forward to the growth opportunities that this facility will bring to our company.”
