Philippa Hughes will be the keynote speaker at the Women’s Policy Forum 2021 Symposium
The intersection of women, the arts, and the economy is the theme of this year's Women’s Policy Forum symposium, set to take place Nov. 12 at Casa Mañana.
The Emerging Issues Symposium — in its eighth year and presented in collaboration with Amphibian Stage — will feature social sculptor and cultural strategist Philippa Hughes as keynote speaker. Heidi Marquez Smith with the Texas Cultural Trust will then present information and findings from the 2021 State of the Arts Economic Impact Study; and panel discussions featuring guests like Fort Worth Opera general director Afton Battle, Near Southside, Inc. director of events and communications Megan Henderson, and more will discuss personal challenges, arts advocacy, and other topics.
“[The event] brings a timely and vital conversation on the role of women in the arts and importance of arts in community building and the economy,” Kendal Smith Lake, co-chair along with Karen Myers of the 2021 Symposium, said in a statement. “Fort Worth is experiencing exponential growth and prosperity. Art is the key to building the foundation of a healthy, productive, and inclusive city where creativity is valued.”
The symposium will take place 9 a.m. – noon, and in the evening, a reception at Amphibian Stage will begin at 6:30 p.m., prior to the world premiere of "Egress."
