In a few weeks we’ll find out what this version of the Dallas Cowboys looks like on the field.
On Wednesday, we got an idea of what kind of renovation work, valued at hundreds of millions of dollars, executives have in mind for team’s home field, AT&T Stadium in Arlington.
Officials filed paperwork with the state outlining an “AT&T Stadium Interior Refresh,” which will impact clubs and suites and include new millwork and finishes, according to the document.
HKS Inc. is listed as the design firm on the filing for the project, which will encompass 575,000 square feet. The cost of this round of construction is estimated at $180 million.
Work is expected to begin the first of the year and be complete by July 2025.
The stadium renovations align with a report in December that the Cowboys played up to $295 million in upgrades to the stadium, its biggest renovation since opening in 2009.
According to the Sports Business Journal, the scope of the work was not intended to drastically change the way the stadium looks and feels. Rather, it would “refresh premium spaces ahead of some key lease renewals and upgrade technology and other back-of-the-house services ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.”
Among the changes the Cowboys will have to make for the World Cup is raising the field level 15 feet to accommodate a FIFA-mandated wider playing surface.
The Sports Business Journal reported that the Cowboys would ask the NFL for approval to withhold their regular contributions to shared gate revenue with league peers to finance the renovations. The team was also expected to seek a waiver for the NFL’s $600 million team debt limit.
