The Fort Worth City Council on Tuesday approved an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates Inc. to fund additional engineering services for design and development of Phase I improvements at Gateway Park on the East Side.
The $1.255 million amendment, coupled with the original contract of $475,000, brings the total to $1.73 million. It is part of the 2022 bond program.
The 2022 bond program included $8 million to update the Gateway Park Master Plan and Phase I development that was prioritized through the master plan process.
Multiple public meetings were held in 2023 that resulted in the final park master plan and Phase I priority improvements.
Gateway Park, the city’s only metropolitan park, is home to Fort Worth’s only synthetic turf field complex, a softball complex with concessions, a disc golf course, rowing club boathouse, mountain bike trails, a connection to the Trinity River Trail System and the Fort Woof Dog Park.
The Gateway Park master plan is being updated to incorporate new recreational facilities and park improvements, including infrastructure enhancements, sports courts and pedestrian trails.
