Dickies Arena
Fort Worth’s majestic Dickies Arena, which stands tall in its saddle on Montgomery Street, continues to command attention.
Comedian Dave Chappelle, who has extremely hot sports opinions about society, is coming on June 30, arena officials announced on Tuesday.
However, the arena itself is climbing charts.
Dickies is the top grossing arena for its size in North America, according to Billboard magazine, which released its midyear top 10 worldwide boxscore chart.
Dickies ($39.9 million through 79 shows) is second to only OVO Hydro in Glasgow ($41.4 million through 76 shows) globally in total gross in arenas with a capacity between 10,001-15,000.
Barclays Arena in Hamburg, Germany, is next at $33.8 million in 82 shows.
“Fort Worth is an incredible market with a passion for entertainment and it is wonderful that our Cowtown-Funky Town is gaining more recognition worldwide,” said Dickies Arena President and General Manager Matt Homan in a statement.
Dickies also hosted 610,910 guests, also second in the world.
Officials with Trail Drive Management Corp., which manages the arena, were also sure to thank agents, managers, and promoters who have chosen the arena for artists and bands.
Plus, of course, all the event-goers who eagerly show up.
“It is a great honor to make the Billboard top 10 list and we will continue to bring great shows to the city of Fort Worth,” Homan said.
The arena, constructed through a public-private partnership, cost $540 million to build. It opened in 2019.
In the biggest category — arenas larger than 15,0001 and bigger — O2 Arena in London grossed more than $122 million in 122 shows. Madison Square Garden was next with $106.4 million in 56 shows, followed by Kia Forum in Inglewood, California, at $79.3 million in 45 shows.
