Marshall Grain Company
Marshall Grain Company announced recently that it had successfully completed a capital fundraising initiative of $100,000 to finance renovations to the company's future base of operations in Colleyville.
The company partnered with Honeycomb Credit, a crowdfunding investment platform serving small businesses that allows small investors within the company's own community to earn interest on their investment.
"We're sincerely grateful to the many customers and friends of Marshall Grain who've chosen to support us with their hard-earned money,” said owner Jim Connelley in a statement. “Their faith in us is a testimony to the viability of small, local retailers over mega-chain stores and online behemoths.”
Marshall Grain Co. began as a farm store in 1946 serving farmers, their pets, and their livestock. It has evolved into a pet and garden center still serving the needs of backyard gardeners and pets, which in addition to cats and dogs, may include chickens or even goats.
The company is currently in temporary quarters in Hurst but plans to move to Colleyville in early 2024 at 5311 Colleyville Blvd.
Renovation plans are already underway to install a greenhouse, replace fencing, improve handicapped access, add new exterior signage and reconfigure interior spaces.
Honeycomb Credit conducts due diligence on each business owner, according to the company. This includes operating history, business plan strength, and financial viability to de-risk the investment while supporting the business owner’s plan and community involvement.
Honeycomb Credit investors earn interest on the amount they contribute. Marshall Grain investors will earn 11% interest on their investment, to be paid back quarterly over a three-year period.
Said Connelley: “We look forward to repaying our investors by continuing to offer our local community the best selection of organic gardening products and pet supplies, along with in-depth knowledge of organic methods.”
