Quorum Architects
Four small businesses were honored last week as exemplars of best practices in business.
Quorum Architects, Valor Mineral Management, Chicken Salad Chick, and Wild Cactus Therapy were all recognized at the Fort Worth Chamber’s Small Business of the Year awards as part of Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker’s State of the City address at Dickies Arena.
Quorum Architects, an architecture and interior design firm; Valor Mineral Management, an oil and gas asset management company; and Chicken Salad Chick, a casual dining restaurant chain were each recognized. Wild Cactus Therapy won in the emerging business division.
Three judges evaluated each entry and the scores were averaged to determine the final winners.
“We are honored to be recognized and plan to continue our mission of taking care of our people and our clients,” says Scott Wilson, Quorum founding partner who accepted the award with the firm’s director of marketing, Patty Potter.
Quorum was among Fort Worth Inc.’s Best Companies To Work For in 2021. This year, the firm celebrated it’s 30th anniversary this year by giving back to the community through 30 Acts of Kindness. Activities included fundraising, group volunteer events and donation drives as well as pro bono design projects for numerous area non-profits.
The Fort Worth Chamber has been producing the annual Small Business of the Year awards since 1998. The award categories include small businesses of 1-20 employees, 21-50 employees, 51-100 employees, and emerging businesses. According to the judging criteria, these Fort Worth-based small businesses were considered based on their talent (40% weighted), successful pivots during Covid-19 (25%), diversity, equality, and inclusion policies (20%), and their level of community involvement (15%).
"Being awarded a 'Small Business of the Year' by the Fort Worth Chamber is an incredible honor and we're humbled to have been selected," says Valor CEO Joseph DeWoody. "We enthusiastically support the Fort Worth Chamber and all they do to promote local business and commerce. Our company was founded here, and Fort Worth will always be our home. I credit this prestigious award to all of Valor's loyal employees and associates who, each and every day, contribute to our shared growth and success in the energy sector and beyond. It feels great to be acknowledged for the significant effort we've put into building an organization that emphasizes a unique culture and our focus on employee satisfaction."

“We have grown our staff size this year but also grown closer to each other as we worked together to help local charities and organizations,” says Karin Taylor, Quorum partner and director of interior design.
Says Wilson: “We work all over the country, but we proudly call Fort Worth our home.”
