Elli Bezner's Leadfoot will foot bills after a high bid of $340,000.
In addition to the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion steers, other youngsters walked away from the Fort Worth Stock Show Junior Sale of Champions on Saturday with princely sums for bank accounts.
The Grand Champion Lamb, shown by Landrie Lain of Parker County 4-H, sold for $100,000, big by LKCM Headwater, LKCM Capital Group and Distributions Solutions Group. Ladies on the Lamb purchased the Reserve Grand Champion, shown by Grace Moore, for $90,000.
The high bid for Kamlynn Mason’s Grand Champion barrow (male pig) was $35,000 made by Standard Meat Company. Mason was representing Mongtomery County 4-H. Double Eagle Energy made the high bid on the Reserve Grand Champion, shown by Elin Rvera of De Leon, for $30,000.
Susan and Stephen Butt were the winning bidders on the Grand Champion wether goat, which sold for $35,000. The goat was shown by Brett Bowers of Fredericksburg FFA. Zane Walker of Ovalo was the recipient of the $20,000 high bid on his Reserve Grand Champion made by Luther King Capital Management and the U Ol' Goat group.
The sale took place at Will Rogers’ Watt Arena.
Roughly 300 youngsters from across Texas sold animals on Saturday in auctions that yielded a record $8.2 million, according to officials.
Elli Bezner’s Grand Champion steer Leadfoot was sold for $340,000 to Fort Worth-based Higginbotham about 10 minutes after 9 a.m. That’s roughly $256 and change per pound for the 1,329-pound European Cross.
Ed Bass made the winning bid of $230,000 on the Reserve Grand Champion, an American Cross shown by Mattison Koepp of La Vernia.
“I'm still kind of in shock," said Bezner. "This is crazy that it actually happened. You dream of it and you want to do it, but getting to reality is a hard thing to do. I honestly didn't know what to expect, but the generosity is amazing, and I am so grateful.”
